As a plant parent, you know how important it is for the soil your plants are growing in to be rich in nutrients. Composting ensures the soil is rich enough for your plants to thrive. If you have a lot of food waste at home, you can use them as compost. Instead of just throwing them out, why not use them for your plants, so you don’t have to rely on chemical fertilizers?
If you’re unsure of where to start, you can follow after Jen’s footsteps and start small with a backyard compost. What she attempted to do in this video is use a small 5-gallon bucket and applied the layering method on her compost.
When you’re composting, you want a good mix of green waste- leaves and plant scraps- and food waste. Then, when you’ve got everything you need, you layer them. Start with the green waste, then on top of that, food waste, and so on. These layers help balance the moisture in the pile, allowing air and excess water to escape from every layer.
Turn your waste into compost for your plant’s nutrition with the help of this informative video.
