Fully Mechanical 3D Printer

When we hear 3D printing it sounds like one of the most innovative and game-changing inventions mankind has created in recent decades, and it is; It simplifies and restructures our designing process and may very well be the foundation of the future.

However Daniel, as a creator, feels that, for all the benefits it has brought us, 3D printing alienates the artist from the artwork. “I often feel left out – it’s rather an emotion than a fact. Are these printed products still mine? Or are they merely a result of this new technology?”

That’s why Daniel sought to make his art his own again; by making a fully mechanical 3D printer. This printer needed a physical guide, made by hand to act as the equivalent of a “computer program” and needed physical force, from manually

Using bent steel wires as guides and a weight system similar to clock towers for power, the machine creates vase-like sculptures from materials such as clay, pasta, wall filler, and starch bioplastics among other non-heated materials.

Daniel said he worked on the idea of the machine during university back in 2014.

The ingenuity in this artwork is better off demonstrated. Take a look at Daniel’s channel showcasing the machine in its full glory.

What others are saying.
“Clearly the effort put into this is likely not going to be appreciated. Getting all the gears and whatnot timed just right so that it would push out the material at the correct rate is incredible. Great job!”
