Change things up at home so you won't feel suffocated. Julie shares some tips and tricks to make any room feel larger than life.

Tips and Tricks to Make A Small Space Look Bigger

1. Paint:

Paint the walls and ceiling in the same color if you don't have crown moldings. If you have moldings installed, contrast the color of the ceiling with your walls and molding.

Try tone on tone, where your furniture, walls, and ceiling share one tone. You can also try styling your room in neutral tones.

2. Furniture:

Opt for a few large pieces instead of a bunch of small pieces. Purchase a sectional to make your room feel more spacious. Use see through furniture like glass or Lucite. Purchase low back furniture and seating. Try furnishing with modern legs. Scale the furniture proportional to your space.

3. Lighting:

Add wall sconces. Try using flush mount lighting. Bring in floor lamps to add height and combat dark corners. Watch your proportions. Make sure every addition complements the rest of the room.

4. Vertical Space:

Make sure artworks are hung at the correct height. Use one large, statement art piece to take up a focal wall. Use tall vertical bookcases. Bring your kitchen cabinets up to the ceiling to draw your eye up. Hang draperies as high as you can above the windows. Extend the drapery rod to make the window appear wider.
