How to Pickle Whole Banana Peppers

Don’t let it scare you off, banana peppers are very mild, and it actually has a sweet taste that goes well with a lot of popular foods like sandwiches, pizzas, and salads. Due to its size, you can even stuff it with meat and cheese. Pickling these peppers is a very popular method of preserving them. Jill shows us that pickling doesn’t even need any fancy equipment.

But, why even pickle them? Well, the change in flavour is actually very delicious. Using these pickled peppers will add tang and zing to any of the popular foods listed above, with the added benefit of chopping these peppers up and making a nice relish.

Ingredient list
  • Fresh whole Banana Peppers – depending on pepper size you’ll use ¾ to 1lb per qt.
  • 2 cups white vinegar
  • 2 cups Apple Cider vinegar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tsp pickling / canning salt per qt.
  • 2 cloves fresh garlic per qt. - chopped for more flavour or whole for less garlic flavouring
  • 1/2 small onion coarsely chopped per qt.
  • 2 dried Japanese Red Peppers per qt.
  • Two 1-quart jars with new lids /bands
